Vaginal Dryness

A condition where the vagina does not produce enough natural lubrication, causing discomfort with certain types of activity, urinary symptoms, and pain with sex. It is commonly experienced after menopause but can be caused by other factors that lead to hormonal changes, certain medications, medical conditions, or lifestyle choices. Traditional treatment options include over-the-counter moisturizers or lubricants, prescription medications, and hormonal therapies.

Vaginal Laxity

Refers to a loss of tightness or elasticity in the vaginal walls. This can result in reduced vaginal sensations, changes in sexual function, and possible urinary dysfunction. It can be caused by natural aging processes, childbirth, hormonal changes, and genetics.

Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM)

A term that now replaces “vulvovaginal atrophy” and is used to describe a group of symptoms that women can experience during and after menopause. It includes vulvar or vaginal symptoms such as dryness, burning, itching, pain during sex or other sexual dysfunction, and urinary symptoms such as urgency, frequency, incontinence, painful urination, and recurrent urinary tract infections.  GSM is caused by a decrease in estrogen levels that is most commonly caused by menopause, which leads to thinning and drying of vaginal and urinary tissues.

Labial Hypertrophy

Labial hypertrophy refers to an enlargement or overgrowth of the labia minora, which are the inner lips of the vulva. This can be a natural variation or a result of certain medical conditions, and can sometimes cause discomfort or affect sexual function.
